Graphene: 200 Times Stronger Than Steel, 1,000 Times Lighter Than Paper

Image
Graphene: 200 Times Stronger Than Steel, 1,000 Times Lighter Than Paper In 2004, two scientists at the University of Manchester conducted a deceptively simple experiment with potentially world-changing consequences. The researchers, Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov, were playing around with graphite, the stuff in the tip of your pencil. Graphene: 200 Times Stronger Than Steel, 1,000 Times Lighter Than Paper Named for the colossal Titans of Greek mythology, titanium is pound-for-pound the strongest metal on Earth. Although it's not a scarce metal, it is … Continue Reading . . . https://flipboard.com/@howstuffworks/graphene-200-times-stronger-than-steel-1-000-times-lighter-than-paper-s9lr7q5vtdt73895?from=share&utm_source=flipboard&utm_medium=curator_share

New Research Reveals how Electrons Interact in Twisted Graphene

During his time as king of England, Scotland and Ireland, William III must have thoroughly enjoyed his bedtime views. from https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/new-research-reveals-how-electrons-interact-in-twisted-graphene/ https://static.scientificamerican.com/blogs/cache/file/7FD52ECD-F46C-45D4-930B668E0AB49DA9_source.jpg?w=590&h=800&CEB5A74D-1186-45C1-B10798579ED8A26A

Cost-effective method produces semiconducting films from materials that outperform silicon

Image
MIT researchers have devised a way to grow single crystal GaN thin film on a GaN substrate through two-dimensional materials. The GaN thin film is then exfoliated by a flexible substrate, showing the rainbow color that comes from thin film interference. from https://phys.org/news/2018-10-cost-effective-method-semiconducting-materials-outperform.html https://3c1703fe8d.site.internapcdn.net/newman/gfx/news/2018/studyopensro.jpg

The first graphene jacket is here, and it’s magical

Image
At $595 a pop, Vollebak’s new graphene jacket isn’t for everyone. But if even half of what its creators promise is true, it could be worth every cent. from https://www.fastcompany.com/90205090/the-first-graphene-jacket-is-here-and-its-magical https://images.fastcompany.net/image/upload/w_596,c_limit,q_auto:best,f_auto/wp-cms/uploads/2018/08/7-graphene-jacket.jpg

What should Apple’s new product line be?

Image
It’s basic economics that you don’t want to put all of your Apples into one basket. Right now Apple has one big basket called the iPhone. In my opinion the computers have taken a backseat to the iPhone. The iPod is pretty much going to go the way of the dodo bird. Apple has officially cut their Airport Time Capsule. So now what’s left is the Apple Watch tvOS and Apple Music. Is this enough to sustain the company? Yes they’ll survive, but is it enough to stay on top? Mobile phones and the smartphone market is pretty well saturated now. You can go OLED, more ram, more storage, other features such as retinal. But all in all it’s still a saturated market with everyone’s fingers in the till. I’d be very surprised if there’s anything revolutionary coming out anytime soon. Personally I think that AI will be the next big thing and that Google is on the right track. Being able to talk to the phone and get things accomplished is the next big thing. For example this entire post was written u...
